WORKSHOP: Identifying strengths in 3 steps: a technique to help families affected by violence understand what their strengths are (with Mary Garriga)

Participants will learn about the Strengths Based Approach (SBA) in therapeutic work with families affected by violence. SBA is a key element for Fundacion JUCONI to help empower children and families with trauma histories throughout their healing process. Tools associated with this approach stimulate children and families to improve their relationships using the resources they already have. Participants will learn and practise a simple but powerful three step technique that lets professionals identify, name, and prove the strengths already present in any individual or any family situation. These strengths become a starting point to build skills development strategies to support the process of recovery from trauma and violence. This tool, adapted from the positive discipline approach, is relevant to JUCONI’s friendship operation stage of its intervention model, when it contacts families. JUCONI also uses it during the intensive and follow up stages with very good results.
